Octavo – Mixed Media
WHAT: One page selected from an eight page book of illustrations
ABOUT: From a dictionary page chosen randomly, two words were selected to define the piece: “octavo” and “odds & ends.” An octavo is a book resulting from folding standard paper sizes three times to make eight leaves, this defined the format. The second term “odds and ends” defined the medium. The composition was made with paper scraps and discarded pastels. The paint medium, which served as the adhesive, left brush strokes that became highlighted by the charcoal illustrations.
